“Bacil do Brasil is an Artificial Intelligence colony of bacteria integrated in a hardware system”
Bacil do Brasil is an autonomous colony of bacteria eager to survive and multiply. This is done by combining an evolutionary algorithm with a neural network. The neural network constantly tries to find the best parameters for the bacteria to find food, move, eat, grow and divide. The evolutionary algorithm will use these parameters for the evolution of the bacteria. The better the network, the faster they will develop. To avoid getting stuck in a local maximum the algorithm is sensible for random mutations. The choice to express this network-algorithm combination by means of bacteria is because of the simplicity of the organisms to make the effect as clear as possible. To make this project more attractive and visible it is integrated in a microscope. It is possible to digitally pan and zoom to have a better look at the colony.
